LOVELY
LIFE
Ms. Ji strode over, smiling and greeting. Her striking appearance and graceful demeanor naturally evoked a warm and approachable aura. She was more like that kind of woman—the kind who could calmly preside over a large meeting at work, tackle a new route at the climbing gym, and fly to exotic locations to experience breathtaking scenery whenever she had the chance.
However, it was in the cancer hospital ward that I first met Ms. Ji. Listening to her recount her journey with nasopharyngeal cancer, how she coped with lows, switched treatments, and finally saw her recovery...I discovered a light that could never be concealed: her passion for life itself.

33, 6, 3...
This is not the number of trips in the past few years, but the digital records of radical radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and chemotherapy.
In June 2022, Ms. Ji went to the hospital with blood-tinged nasal discharge, only to receive shocking news: she had poorly differentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma. After the shock subsided, she calmed down. Working and living in the capital, where medical resources are concentrated, the immediate priority was to seek timely treatment. So, in addition to work, gatherings, and travel, her life became filled with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy.
In February 2024, with the weather in northern China still chilly, Ms. Ji unexpectedly discovered a liver nodule during a follow-up examination. The hospital initially offered no special treatment. Further examinations in June of that year revealed liver metastasis. The hope she had finally regained was once again overshadowed.

Seeking further treatment, Ms. Ji visited a renowned tertiary hospital in Guangzhou. The hospital provided a definitive diagnosis and a similar treatment plan—chemotherapy plus targeted therapy. But Ms. Ji, ever the optimist, felt a wave of fear for the first time, recalling the long list of numbers.

Accidental discovery
Hope is around the corner
When Ms. Ji was about to return, she stumbled upon a conversation among fellow patients and learned about Chief Physician Huang Deliang. She figured, since she was already in Guangzhou, she might as well visit him.
The next day, Ms. Ji came to Guangzhou Royal Li Cancer Hospital. Huang Deliang, technical director of the Minimally Invasive Intervention Department, and his team carefully reviewed all her examination reports and listened to the treatment recommendations from several previous hospitals.
More importantly, Chief Physician Huang Deliang asked Ms. Ji about her demands in detail, conducted a comprehensive analysis of her condition based on this information, and tailored a treatment plan for her.

She didn't like planning, but she didn't expect that this time her spontaneous actions would bring her hope.
Huang Deliang, technical director of the Department of Minimally Invasive Intervention, and his team performed "CT-guided argon-helium knife ablation of secondary malignant tumors of the liver" on Ms. Ji in September and October 2024, and the operation went smoothly.

Excitingly, a follow-up examination two months later showed that most of the tumor had been necrotic. A follow-up enhanced CT scan in March of this year also showed that the lesion had shrunk.

Treating illness is just a part of life.
Not all
The tumor's significant shrinkage or disappearance gave Ms. Ji and her family a major boost of confidence. She fully trusted Dr. Huang Deliang's treatment, and as she continued to be inspired by his advice on "living with cancer" and "improving quality of life," she began to focus on life itself.

After each treatment, Ms. Ji would explore the surrounding areas. She visited Conghua, Chaoshan, Hong Kong, and Macau. "I really enjoy rice noodle rolls, clay pot porridge, and morning tea... I feel like I'm quite suited to the south."
Even though we'd just met, I could glimpse fragments of her past life from her tone and expression, wandering the city streets and alleys, and knowing all about delicious food and fun things. In this way, coming to Guangzhou for treatment felt like living there for a while.
As they chatted, the nurse gently reminded them that an injection was due. Ms. Ji sat back down on the bed, straightened her back, and extended her arm, a familiar sight. She explained that medical treatment is only part of life, not everything. She explained that as long as her body can handle it, she can walk around and continue her favorite lifestyle, which can also bring positive energy to those around her.

People with the same frequency will always meet
During her treatment, Ms. Ji met fellow breast cancer patient Aunt Fang (a pseudonym). Both from northern China, they shared a similarly positive outlook. Both had their disease under control thanks to Dr. Huang Deliang and his team, and the two instantly connected. Their mutual support and companionship in their cancer battles gave each other courage and strength.
